Public Purpose Statement: Efficient water use helps reduce utility costs and supports long-term environmental sustainability. By making small adjustments both indoors and outdoors, you can maximize every drop. Explore these practical tips to conserve water—future generations will benefit from your efforts

Water Conservation Tips

Outdoor Tips

• Inspect Irrigation Systems Regularly: Check your sprinkler system each month for leaks or misaligned heads to ensure water reaches only your landscape—not sidewalks, driveways, or structures.
• Use Mulch to Retain Moisture: Apply a 2–4 inch layer of mulch around plants, keeping it a couple of inches away from stems or trunks. Mulch helps soil retain moisture and reduces the need for frequent watering.
• Water Early and Infrequently: Water plants in the early morning to reduce evaporation. Deep, infrequent watering promotes stronger root systems and improves drought tolerance
• Choose Low-Maintenance Landscaping: Select native or drought-tolerant plants and group them based on similar water needs. Planting in spring or fall can also reduce irrigation demand.
• Collect and Reuse Rainwater: Use a rain barrel to capture runoff from your roof. Stored rainwater is ideal for gardens, potted plants, or areas that need supplemental watering.

Indoor Tips

• Fix Leaks Promptly: A dripping faucet or a running toilet can waste thousands of gallons each year. Repair leaks as soon as they’re noticed to prevent unnecessary water loss.
• Upgrade to Efficient Fixtures: Install high-efficiency toilets, showerheads, and faucet aerators to significantly reduce water use without sacrificing performance.
• Turn Off Taps When Not in Use: Don’t let the water run while brushing teeth, shaving, or washing dishes by hand. Turning off the tap can save several gallons per use.
• Run Full Loads Only: Operate dishwashers and washing machines only when they are fully loaded. This maximizes water efficiency and reduces overall usage.
• Monitor Your Water Bill: An unexpected increase in your water bill could indicate a hidden leak. Track your usage regularly to catch problems early.
